Transferred noisily from old 78s, this double-disc set nonetheless brings together several important Hot Club recordings of these two musical giants. With classic performances aboard of "Dinah," "Tiger Rag," "Lady Be Good," "Djangology," "Limehouse Blues" (heard here in two versions), "I Got Rhythm," "China Boy," "Moonglow," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and "Rose Room," it gets mighty hard to fault this package, despite the lack of liner notes and crummy transfers in spots. If you want to digest the genius of these two men, here's a good place to start. |
